Turn Up the HEAT® Week!
October 14-20, 2012
WHAT: Turn Up the H.E.A.T. Week is dedicated to educating the public on auto
theft prevention, and encouraging citizens to report what they may know about
auto theft-related crimes in their neighborhoods. Turn Up the H.E.A.T. Week
coincides with celebrations for Help Eliminate Auto Thefts’ anniversary in
October.
WHO: H.E.A.T. is a partnership between Michigan’s auto insurance companies, law
enforcement and residents of Michigan. The H.E.A.T. program encourages citizen
action through a 24/7 confidential, toll-free tip line (1-800-242-H.E.A.T.) and
website (www.1800242HEAT.com). Tipsters can receive up to $10,000 for providing
information leading to the arrest and prosecution of individuals for auto theft,
auto theft-related insurance fraud and identity theft, carjacking, theft rings
and chop shops.
WHY: Over the years, Michigan residents have helped H.E.A.T. recover
millions in stolen property and assisted in the arrests of nearly 3,500 suspects of auto theft-related crimes. By partnering with H.E.A.T.,
Michigan residents can help to keep their neighborhoods safer and insurance
rates lower.
